Homework
At Marlborough Road Academy we believe that the purpose of homework is to:
- Consolidate and reinforce learning undertaken in class
- Prepare children for future learning
- Practice on-going skills (such as reading and times tables)
Responsibilities
Teachers are responsible for setting homework appropriate to the child’s age and ability and for giving feedback on homework where necessary. All homework will be set out weekly on a Microsoft Sway.
Parents are responsible for providing their child with the time, space and resources needed to complete their homework. Parents are encouraged to be involved in their child’s homework – to discuss homework with their child and to support them where necessary. Parents can also assist by keeping up to date with the school website, where information, guidance and news relating to homework can be found.
Finally, we encourage parents to take their children on trips to the library – even reading with our child for ten minutes a night is getting active with your child’s learning. Pupils are responsible for completing any homework set, including remembering to take homework homme and return it to school before the due date.
In line with government guidelines, the amount of homework given increases as children move throughout the school.
The government recommends the following time allocations for homework.
