About Us

Marlborough Road Academy is part of the United Learning group of schools. We are a two form entry primary school situated in Higher Broughton in Salford. Being just a five minute journey from Manchester City Centre and the BBC MediaCity, we take advantage of this position to enhance children’s learning by arranging a variety of trips and visits. Children have had a number of opportunities to take part in BBC children’s shows.

Ours is a diverse community. Pupils have a wide range of backgrounds and 45 different languages are spoken. The school is situated in an area of high deprivation with 61% of our children on free school meals. We have a high level of mobility and the school is organised to manage the impact of this.

Our children enter Nursery well below age related expectation, but with a full time Nursery provision, we have a very positive impact on children’s learning and their start in school.

One of the great pleasures of working at Marlborough Road, is that you know that what you do can make a real difference to children’s learning. Although it can be difficult to work with all the challenges that the children face it can be incredibly rewarding.

United Teaching

United Teaching is the teacher training programme for United Learning.

We offer you the opportunity to train while you teach, so you can get the teaching qualifications you need without going back to university. You can train for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) on its own, or you can go for a PGCE as well, earning 60 Masters-level credits along the way.

Training with United Teaching gives you real teaching exposure in a choice of schools across the country. We will support you with subject specialists and dedicated mentors from over 80 of our schools nationwide.

About the Course

We offer an immersive programme starting with a two-week summer school in August. You will then spend your training year in your host school with additional training one afternoon each week. Assessment will continue throughout the course, based on your classroom experience and achievement measured against the Teaching Standards, while your PGCE study will consist of two academic assignments, assessed by Goldsmiths, University of London.

In your ECT year, you will continue to receive training, mentoring and professional development opportunities. Our ECT's benefit from twilight training sessions, mentor visits and additional subject-specific support from the Prince's Teaching Institute.
