Marlborough Road Academy is celebrating after School Business Manager Joanne O’Hara was crowned Support Staff of the Year at United Learning’s Best in Everyone Awards 2022.

Each year the awards honour individuals, teams and departments across the Group for the exceptional contributions they have made to school and community life. This includes recognition for standout academic successes, sporting and musical achievements, and commitment to leadership and service.

To take home this award, Joanne was selected by the judging panel from a range of outstanding nominees from across the country. In honour of her win, she was presented with an engraved glass award.

In her nomination, Joanne, who works across Marlborough Road and Abbey Hey academies, is praised for her “flexible, can-do attitude” and ability to put both pupils and colleagues at ease. A “resourceful, hardworking and grounded” individual, Joanne continually puts the wellbeing of pupils, staff and their families first. Joanne’s colleagues nominated her for this prestigious award in recognition of the time and care she has dedicated to both academies, consistently going above and beyond what is expected.

Commenting on her achievement, Joanne said:

“It is a privilege to receive this award. I am proud to be part of a dedicated team of support staff both at Marlborough Road and Abbey Hey and it is humbling to know that all our hard work is recognised.”

Judith Richens, Principal at Marlborough Road Academy, said:

“Congratulations to Joanne on receiving this well-deserved award. Joanne inspires us all with her hard work and dedication and the ongoing resilience she displays in the face of any challenges. She plays an integral role in the smooth functioning of both Marlborough Road and Abbey Hey academies and works tirelessly to meet the needs of all our pupils and families. I cannot think of anyone more deserving of this national recognition.”

2022 marks the tenth year that the awards have been held and a return to an in-person ceremony following two years of virtual celebrations. Bespoke videos announcing the winners were also posted on United Learning’s Twitter account to coincide with the live event, giving over 10,000 peers, colleagues and family at home the opportunity to join in the celebrations.
